"Hot Chicks"

Today was the arrival of 16 Rhode Island Red chicks to my new chicken coop.  They are so calm compared to my previous Leghorn chicks a year ago.  They don't go spastic or pile up on each other in the corner.  My grandma brought them over after lunch.  They do what normal chicks do...poop (even on me), eat, and sleep.  My grandma said I must keep the temperature in the coop at a steady 90 degrees, but I've only been able to keep it at 80 degrees.  It is really hot in there!  My sister says my grandma wants them to be "HOT CHICKS".  I had to put 1/2 teaspoon of sugar in their water when they first arrived and placed feed in their pan.  Their home came together at the last minute...actually when they arrived!  The heat lamp was on the floor and was put up with a wire by my dad.  The cardboard was on the floor as well and needed to be set up.  Grandma dumped the pine shavings with a WOOSH and my sister had to untangle the electrical cord.  Until tomorrow...
